TicksQ: I have been using advantage and do not have a flea problem, thank god, but i have been finding ticks on my dog. i am at a loss as to the best product to use to kill ticks. i thought advantage did this, but i guess not. also, what is the best way to remove a tick? thanks A: The k9 advantix kills fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.|when is tick is found embedded in the skin, use a fine pointed tweezers at the point of attachment, and grasp firmly. remember to wear latex gloves when doing this. |using slow, steady, and firm traction, pull the tick straight out from the skin. |cleanse the skin with mild soap and water. |if part of the tick breaks off, you can try to remove it as you would a splinter, but it is probably best to leave it alone. the body will 'eject' it in time. |place the tick in a jar of alcohol, noting the date, in case of future illness. tick identification and location of tick infestation will be important. ||tips: |do not use a match or caustic materials to try to smother the tick or get the tick to 'back out'. this doesn't work, and may be causing the tick to regurgitate more saliva (and potential pathogens) into the skin. |

Need informastion on side effectsQ: Hello i have a 8 year old boxer she has been treated for arthritus in her joints.my question is what kind of side effects do i have to be concerned with she is on dermamaxx 100mx,and what is best help that i can do for her to help her be more comfortable.i also give her gluco 2 any advice would be great. A: I like to add antioxidant nutrients like vitamin e at 400iu daily as well as vitamin c in form of ester c at 1000 mg twice daily. i also like bioflavenoid supplements like proanthocyanidins at dose of 1 mg per pound twice daily in addition to glucosamine like you are doing. even so some dogs need drugs like deramaxx; just have liver/kidneys monitored periodically as well as watching appetite and any intestinal side effects which are less common with this drug

Bee stingQ: My 20 pound, 1 year-old dog was stung on the foot by a bee; shortly afterwards, he had diarrhea and vomiting, but seems to be himself. his foot doesn't seem swolen, he hasn't developed any rashes, and is not experiencing any trouble breathing. i may give him benadryl as a precaution. do you think he'll pull through? A: I think benadryl is fine at dose of one children's 12.5 mg tablet up to twice daily as needed
Should i give my dog heartworm med.Q: My dog had a serious heartworm problem in 2001, and was on medication. he was given shots twice a year. i lived in new york then. i now live in nevada, i took my dog to a vet who said the heartworm medicine wasn't necessary because there are no mosquitos in nevada. i am upset, i killed two large mosquitos last week, and my previous vet told me that thor would be on the medicine for the rest of his life. can i give it to him orally? A: You can give it to him orally by getting prescription from your vet for once monthly interceptor or hearguard which are carried by 1800petmeds Shop for: 1800petmeds, interceptor
LeakageQ: I have a mix dog she is a doberman/german shepard. my concern is that sometimes she leaks some sort of fluid and it really smells. sort of like fish. what could that be and is it normal or should i be worried. A: I would not worry. this is likely anal gland leakage which is quite common. some dogs need these glands periodically expressed at vet
Treatment for mesquitosQ: I am currently using frontline for my blue heeler and miniature dachshund puppy. they are outside during the day and some in the evening. is there a spray which can repel mesquitos? the k-9 advantix kills & repels mesquitos, but doesn't seem to be as good in the different flea categories. my puppy is scratching his ears and the vet says they are fine. i think it may be mesquito bites. A: I think advantix works just as well for flea prevention as front line and if your concern is mosquitoes then switch to it. keep in mind that scratching ears, etc can be due to other allergies like inhalent allergies or food allergies in dogs

Sore spotQ: I am jsut trying to figure out why my dog is smelling soo bad! we found a small spot on his shoulder that looks like his hair folicils are irritated and oozing... i am not sure what it is from or if this is causing his bad smell. he is acting normal he is just smells real bad even after his bath.
