DogsQ: I have a mixed lab who insists on licking the top of her paw until it is raw, my vet gave me a spray that is suppose to be bitter, but it's not working she has been doing this for six months please help! A: Need to treat internally. likely allergy or nervous habit. ask vet for oral script for amitryptylline which often helps these
Yeast infectionsQ: Is there a product i can use to clean my dogs ears that will prevent him from getting yeast infections. my vet said to use alcohol and stay away from anything with water in it. i bought a product called vetranarians best ear relief(2 step). have you heard of it and what are your thoughts. thank you A: I prefer a mixture of 3 parts alcohol and 1 part white vinegar. the alcohol displaces the moisture and the vinegar acidifies the ear canal and kills the yeast.
HemotomaQ: I'm pretty sure my dog has a hemotoma, which is swollen area at the tip of her ear. i don't have much money, is there a home remedy? or do you recomend possibly draining it myself? and what causes hemotoma's, so i know what to avoid. A: Hematomas caused by trauma from head shaking or scratching and rupture of one of small blood vessels in ear. not health threatening but very annoying and will get bigger in most cases without surgical drainage by vet. nothing you can do at home. dont attempt to drain yourself
