Vomiting
Q: Our 8 year old dog, gretchen, has been vomiting on and off for over 24 hrs now. she is a mixed breed (dachshund and terrier). she usually eats on schedule, daily about 5 pm. she's never had any digestive problems before. i have not changed her dog food. during the last 24+ hours she has been vomiting on and off every hour or so. her stool seemed normal enough earlier today. she has drank a little water but will not eat. she doesn't seem herself. she head is down, ears and tail down. she seems very tired and listless. she didn't even bark at the squirrels today. definitely not her usual perky self. is it possible that she has contracted a bad stomach virus from my 11-year old daughter who was sick earlier this week? i know it sounds crazy, but gretchen is never sick. if this is so, is there anything i can do for her at home until i can get her to the vet. her only visits to the vet have been for annual shots and checkups because she has never been sick. our family vet is out of town for the weekend. he doesn't have an answering service.
A: Remotely possible that viruses can be transmitted between people and pets but hard to prove/disprove. until you get her to vet best to take off all food, only offer small amounts of fluids or electrolytes like pediolyte and can try natural remedy slippery elm which can sometimes help soothe stomach.

Baytril 68mg
Q: My dog, westie) has high enzymes in her liver and she has been on baytril 68 mg for one year -- if we stop she throws up and her appetite is less. the vet said she will always have to take this as she is 16 years old and also a diabetic and this keeps her from getting urinary/etc infections. we are currently paying $2.60 a pill a day. do you have this. otherwise, she seems to be fine and is much better since we found out she is a diabetic one month ago, thanks. appreciate a reply.
A: I believe we do have it but is by prescription which you will need from your vet to purchase

What do i need
Q: I have a litter of pups (5) that need first shots. what do i need to purchase from you?
A: You can use the univac 5 puppy da2pp (sku #3313)for the first shots.
Treatment for mesquitos
Q: I am currently using frontline for my blue heeler and miniature dachshund puppy. they are outside during the day and some in the evening. is there a spray which can repel mesquitos? the k-9 advantix kills & repels mesquitos, but doesn't seem to be as good in the different flea categories. my puppy is scratching his ears and the vet says they are fine. i think it may be mesquito bites.
A: I think advantix works just as well for flea prevention as front line and if your concern is mosquitoes then switch to it. keep in mind that scratching ears, etc can be due to other allergies like inhalent allergies or food allergies in dogs
Shop for: advantix, frontline

Dogs
Q: I have a mixed lab who insists on licking the top of her paw until it is raw, my vet gave me a spray that is suppose to be bitter, but it's not working she has been doing this for six months please help!
A: Need to treat internally. likely allergy or nervous habit. ask vet for oral script for amitryptylline which often helps these

Revolution brand-medicine content
Q: Is the revolution that you sell for the 16# dog the one that covers fleas, heartworms, etc...? or is this just hearworms thank you in advance for your assistance.
A: There is only one revolution. the products we carry are the same exact products that are offered for sale by your veterinarian.
Shop for: revolution

Changing food
Q: I have been feeding my cats ur formula cat food for many years. now that i have relocated, i am unable to find the food i used and vets charge so much for the food. i recently purchased purina's indoor food (they are strictly indoor cats )and gradually am adding to current ur food. is this going to create problems for them. only the one cat had crystals, no stones in the past and has been on the ur formulas ever since. thank you in advance for your attention on this matter and is greatly appreciated. these are my babies.
A: I dont worry too much about issues you ask about as i am not big proponent of these types of diets as i dont feel they are proven and work in many cases. i prefer natural diets like pet guard as well as innova brands, and for cats with history of urinary issues i try to eliminate dry food from them and even have owners consider natural home made diets as described in dr. pitcairns guide to natural health for dogs and cats by richard pitcairn

Frontline plus
Q: I have a inside pomarian. he is full grown and weighs 4 pounds. my vet put him on frontline top spot, but i feel since he is a inside dog that the frontline plus would be better. my vet does not carry frontline plus. do they have that in his size. i see it for my bigger dog.
A: If you dog is an inside dog he doesn't need the frontline plus. at his weight you cannot use it on him. the topspot should be fine.
Shop for: frontline, frontline plus
