Ringworm treatment.Q: My vet diagnosed my rat terrier with ringworm over his entire body. i bought this dog from a suppossed breeder and can tell that he has been in a kennel, on wire his entire life. he is outside on grass now away from my other dogs. i want to use the lymdip combined with an oral medication. what is the name of the oral med. that he has to have? how infectious is ringworm? i also would like to have you comment on some of the old wives tales that i have heard concerning ringworm, such as, "the sun will make ringworm go away". i want to use this dog as a breeder. any help? thanks. A: Never heard of wives tails you ask. also oral drug is either newer preferred one known as itraconazole which is safer and more effective than older drug known as griseofulvin which has more side effects. ringworm is of course infectious and how would depend upon susceptiblity of person or other pet. for example i have never had lesion on my skin even though have been exposed to it many times while others are very sensitive

Baytril 68mgQ: My dog, westie) has high enzymes in her liver and she has been on baytril 68 mg for one year -- if we stop she throws up and her appetite is less. the vet said she will always have to take this as she is 16 years old and also a diabetic and this keeps her from getting urinary/etc infections. we are currently paying $2.60 a pill a day. do you have this. otherwise, she seems to be fine and is much better since we found out she is a diabetic one month ago, thanks. appreciate a reply. A: I believe we do have it but is by prescription which you will need from your vet to purchase
Should i use once a monthQ: I have 3 indoor cats and 1 dog that only goes outside to potty. i have never had a problem with fleas or ticks and i use frontline plus on all my animals. i am hearing that i only have to use frontline every three months. my question is do you think i could get away with every three months or maybe every 45 days? if so are there any health risk? thank you. A: Depends on where you live and how bad your flea problem is. i live in south florida and use the frontline plus monthly.

Permethrin/mosquito protectionQ: Is the product safe to use as is for my dogs. i see that there are shampoos out in the market that contain permethrin. what would be any possible side effects and does it really protect the animals from outdoor insects? A: Permethrins are generally safe in most pets but like any insecticides there can be occasional allergic or hypersensitivity reactions that could range from digestive upset to neurological signs but these are not that common does work nicely against outdoor insects like mosquitoes such as advantix product contains

Yeast infectionsQ: Is there a product i can use to clean my dogs ears that will prevent him from getting yeast infections. my vet said to use alcohol and stay away from anything with water in it. i bought a product called vetranarians best ear relief(2 step). have you heard of it and what are your thoughts. thank you A: I prefer a mixture of 3 parts alcohol and 1 part white vinegar. the alcohol displaces the moisture and the vinegar acidifies the ear canal and kills the yeast.
BlastomycosisQ: Our dog, nelly, was just diagnosed with blasto a week ago. her x-ray showed that she had early signs of pnomonia. she was given spornax for treatment. reading one of the questions, kentraconazole was the medication of choice for a dog with an eye condition associated with blastomycosis. would kentraconazole be suitable for our dog? thank you terri nelson and nelly A: Sporonox is a newer and usually better drug with less side effects than ketaconazole
MedicationQ: What effect would the antibotic called dicural at 45 mg have on nursing 7 week old puppies? A: According to the manufacturer's website, the product should not be used during an animal's rapid-growth period, and dogs are particularly susceptible.
Frontline not workingQ: I have a 4 year old lab and use frontline plus on her regularly. just recently she has been scratching her ears alot. why does she have fleas even with regular use of this product? what can i do to get rid of these fleas; she has scratched her fur off right behind both her ears. thanks so much for your help. A: Are you sure she has fleas; because dogs can itch their ears for other types of allergies. if you are truly seeing fleas, then you could try advantage for fleas as well as treating your house as well which is just as important
