Infection
Q: Hi , i wanted to ask for some help if you could please , i have a 5 year old american eskimo (dog ), male 25 pounds he got in to fight with another dog and suffer a bite to the ear and i beleive it may be infected and i would like to try to treat it myself do too the lack of fueds , so could really use any help you have to offer please thank you jay spisak
A: You can pick up some polysporin or bacitracin ointment at your local pharmacy. apply this 3 times a day. if there is no improvement after 48 hours, or if the ear is getting worse, i would bring your pet to a veterinarian.

Shoulder dislocation
Q: My dog dislocated her shoulder, and the emergency vet gave me a pain killer called zubrin, can i also give her a asprin along with that for pain?
A: No, the zubrin is used for both pain and inflammation.
Shop for: zubrin

Sugar
Q: My wife's dog bj just found out that he got (sugar 400) he needs shots morning and night but is there a better way to give him this? thank you, mr. campbell
A: Not really. most dogs who are diabetics need lifelong insulin either once or twice daily

Should i give my dog heartworm med.
Q: My dog had a serious heartworm problem in 2001, and was on medication. he was given shots twice a year. i lived in new york then. i now live in nevada, i took my dog to a vet who said the heartworm medicine wasn't necessary because there are no mosquitos in nevada. i am upset, i killed two large mosquitos last week, and my previous vet told me that thor would be on the medicine for the rest of his life. can i give it to him orally?
A: You can give it to him orally by getting prescription from your vet for once monthly interceptor or hearguard which are carried by 1800petmeds
Shop for: 1800petmeds, interceptor

Bee sting
Q: My 20 pound, 1 year-old dog was stung on the foot by a bee; shortly afterwards, he had diarrhea and vomiting, but seems to be himself. his foot doesn't seem swolen, he hasn't developed any rashes, and is not experiencing any trouble breathing. i may give him benadryl as a precaution. do you think he'll pull through?
A: I think benadryl is fine at dose of one children's 12.5 mg tablet up to twice daily as needed

Permethrin/mosquito protection
Q: Is the product safe to use as is for my dogs. i see that there are shampoos out in the market that contain permethrin. what would be any possible side effects and does it really protect the animals from outdoor insects?
A: Permethrins are generally safe in most pets but like any insecticides there can be occasional allergic or hypersensitivity reactions that could range from digestive upset to neurological signs but these are not that common does work nicely against outdoor insects like mosquitoes such as advantix product contains
Shop for: advantix

Ichy skin/hair loss
Q: My dog has been scratching his skin so bad that he has like no hair in either sides of his stomach, his feet and his nose. his hair loss is driving us all up the wall and i'm sure he don't like it either. what do i do, he looks like he is so much pain. thanks
A: I would take to vet for itchy skin workup to include skin scrape of skin, and exam for skin parasites, etc. if negative like allergies either to something in diet or inhalent allergies. in meantime you could try oral benadryl at 1 mg per pound twice daily

Bark collar
Q: I have a female dog, pom/small collie mix, weighs about 30#, 5 years old, habitual barker. what is your opinion about citranela collars? shock collars? and what about clipping vocal cords? thank you very much leslie koontz
A: I don't believe ethically in clipping vocal cords. others are worth a try.
