InfectionQ: Hi , i wanted to ask for some help if you could please , i have a 5 year old american eskimo (dog ), male 25 pounds he got in to fight with another dog and suffer a bite to the ear and i beleive it may be infected and i would like to try to treat it myself do too the lack of fueds , so could really use any help you have to offer please thank you jay spisak A: You can pick up some polysporin or bacitracin ointment at your local pharmacy. apply this 3 times a day. if there is no improvement after 48 hours, or if the ear is getting worse, i would bring your pet to a veterinarian.
LeakageQ: I have a mix dog she is a doberman/german shepard. my concern is that sometimes she leaks some sort of fluid and it really smells. sort of like fish. what could that be and is it normal or should i be worried. A: I would not worry. this is likely anal gland leakage which is quite common. some dogs need these glands periodically expressed at vet
AntihistiminesQ: Is loratadine a safe antihistimine to give to dogs? A: I have no experience with it. try tavist if having problems with allergies or amitryptylline
Shakes headQ: Hi, my 3 yrd old rottie/pit mix has started shaking her head as if her ear is bothering her. it is not red or inflammed nor does it have any odor. it is a bit dirty but no more than the ther ear. taking her to the vet is such an ordeal as she does not play well with other dogs..haha can i try to treat it at home first with something safe? she has never had an ear problem or infectin previously. thanks A: It is likely underlying inhalent seasonal allergy. you could try oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound orally twice daily in addition to 1800petmeds ear clear as well. however if persists will likely need prescription topical meds from your vet, also check out article i wrote on this website on ear care.

Frontline not workingQ: I have a 4 year old lab and use frontline plus on her regularly. just recently she has been scratching her ears alot. why does she have fleas even with regular use of this product? what can i do to get rid of these fleas; she has scratched her fur off right behind both her ears. thanks so much for your help. A: Are you sure she has fleas; because dogs can itch their ears for other types of allergies. if you are truly seeing fleas, then you could try advantage for fleas as well as treating your house as well which is just as important
