Dog urinating on lawn
Q: I have a 1 year old pitt/rott mix. where ever he pees outside it kills the grass. is there any kind of medication that can prevent this. brittany hudak
A: There is a medication called grass saver tablets that can be used for this problem.

Ear infection dog
Q: Can i use clavamox or cepohalin?
A: You can use either but best to treat topically with prescription medicine like otomax. dose of both for skin/ear issue is 10 mg per pound twice daily

Joint flexor 800 mg
Q: Does this product differ from the glucosamine taken by humans as a food supplement?
A: It is different in that it is made in doggy doses, is especially flavored to make it appealing to dogs, and the tablets are chewable. you will also find the price to be more appealing to your pocketbook.

Sugar
Q: My wife's dog bj just found out that he got (sugar 400) he needs shots morning and night but is there a better way to give him this? thank you, mr. campbell
A: Not really. most dogs who are diabetics need lifelong insulin either once or twice daily

Dog not eating or drinking water
Q: I have a 6 yrs old pynreness who in the last few weeks has been losing weight and then 2 days ago she became very lathagic and has not eaten or drank anything to speak of she seems very weak also can hardly walk when she stands up. yesterday she did seem to feel very warm i know we will probably take her to the vet tomorrow but do you have any ideas. she never has been a big eater. she also seems to have a lot of skin allgeries she shratches a lot and gets hot spots during the summer. thank you
A: Too many possiblities here. need vet visit and workup asap

Using ivermectin
Q: My ? is using ivermectin? i know it is a cattle thing but a vet in louisiana said that it could be used on smaller animals at 1cc per 10 lbs. every 6 months just like the tablet or shot the vet. gives. you use a syringe with the needle to fill but remove the needle and squirt it in their mouth. i bought a bottle of 50ml. i have 2 dogs, one weights 65 lbs and the other is 28 lbs. the proheart 6 cost a lot compared to ivermectin. please advise your feelings about this medication.
A: As we have stated in the past, we cannot recommend using a product in any manner not listed on the packaging for that product.

Frontline not working
Q: I have a 4 year old lab and use frontline plus on her regularly. just recently she has been scratching her ears alot. why does she have fleas even with regular use of this product? what can i do to get rid of these fleas; she has scratched her fur off right behind both her ears. thanks so much for your help.
A: Are you sure she has fleas; because dogs can itch their ears for other types of allergies. if you are truly seeing fleas, then you could try advantage for fleas as well as treating your house as well which is just as important
Shop for: advantage, frontline plus, frontline

Hemotoma
Q: I'm pretty sure my dog has a hemotoma, which is swollen area at the tip of her ear. i don't have much money, is there a home remedy? or do you recomend possibly draining it myself? and what causes hemotoma's, so i know what to avoid.
A: Hematomas caused by trauma from head shaking or scratching and rupture of one of small blood vessels in ear. not health threatening but very annoying and will get bigger in most cases without surgical drainage by vet. nothing you can do at home. dont attempt to drain yourself
