New puppie and flea protection
Q: We have a yellow lab puppie 3 months old 19 lbs, can we use program flea protection? please advise which program weight range we should select since i don't see anything available for under 20 lbs.
A: Program flavor tabs are available in 4 strengths for oral administration to dogs and puppies 6 weeks of age and older according to their weight. if your puppy is at 19 pounds now i would recommend your getting the 21 - 45 pound dose because he'll be at that weight for a while.

How do you know if your dog has worms?
Q: Hello. i have a 10 yr old chow mixed with lab and all she does is eat. when someone is eating she will bother the person while they eat. when my 1 yr old cousin is eating she will eat the crumbs off the floor that he drops and sometimes take his food when he walks around with a cookie in his hand. i had a 12 yr old cousin that was always feeding my dog table food and things from the fridge. i had to break my dog from eating table food and stop my cousin from feeding my dog things from the fridge. my dog has always had good health so i was wondering if my dog has worms or just not broken from what my cousin used to feed her. thanks.
A: Always worth while to have stool checked for worms but it does sound more behavioral to me.consider working with good trainer in your home

Red tailed boa constrictor
Q: I have a red tailed boa constrictor who seems to have an abcess on his behind, can u suggest an antibiodic of some sort to help this problem?
A: You can try gentacin topical spray to area but internally i like baytril which i usually inject once daily in these guys

Mammory tumor
Q: My basset hound has a large softball size mammory tumor. the local vet examined her and reported that she has several but this is the only one that is showing. she quoted a price of $1300.00 to remove all the tumors but reports that most dogs have a 10% recovery rate. i was curious if it is common to just remove the one tumor? and what the general cost would be? the dog is very high spirited even though she is luging around this tumor. i hate to have to have her put down when her quality of life is still very good even though this one tumor is causing some discomfort when walking. she is active, playful and eats regularly. please let me know your suggestions.
A: Try a second opinion about costs. sounds kind of high to me. also most of time vets remove all of the tumors as often if only remove one, others left can rapidly grow after surgery

Doberman having problems walking
Q: I have a 5 year old male doberman. for the last 1.5 years the dog has begun to have problems walking. it's hard for him to get up and equally hard to walk. he rarley runs, instead he kind of hobbles. it seems that his front paws have problems keeping him up when they bend. he's about 90 lbs (not fat, he's a bigger doberman). at first, i thought it was because he was heavier? any ideas why???
A: You need to have your doberman evaluated by a local veterinarian.

Seizures
Q: Why do dogs & what could cause them
A: There are many disorders that can cause this. it might be epilepsy, an electrolyte or glucose imbalance, or some other disorder. i suggest you have him seen by your veterinarian and a full medical workup be done to find the cause of the problems.

Is this the same?
Q: My dog is around 20 pounds and is due for her dhlpp-c booster. is this the same as the da2lpp booster shot i can order here? my dog is around 16 months old. we adopted her from the spca and they said she was around 4 months old at that time so i am going by that and the vets age time. thank you, candi
A: The da2lpp shot will vaccinate against canine distemper, adenovirus-2, parainfluenza, parvovirus, hepatitis and leptospira. this is the same as "dhlpp-c".
